ROSE PRUNING SEMINAR with Stuart Dalton

Rose expert, Stuart Dalton, will teach you how to shape your rose bushes to encourage beautiful profuse flowering with winter pruning and winter proper care. He will cover equipment, safety in the garden and principles of pruning as well as demonstrating rose care techniques. He has given pruning demonstrations and numerous presentations on rose care appropriate for various times of the year at nurseries and rose societies for 30 years
Location: Due to social distancing requirements and space constraints in the Pumphouse, the workshop instruction will be viewed using Zoom. The Pumphouse will not be open.

Register Now Alrie Middlebrook, executive director of the Calfornia Native Garden Foundation, will speak about gardening with native plants to sequester carbon, promote biodiversity, soil health, water conservation, pollination and a host of other ecosystem services that are enhanced by gardening with native plants using the plant community approach to artful ecological gardens.

Bio: Alrie Middlebrook is a committed advocate and practitioner of the sustainable lifestyle, a landscape professional and California native plant specialist. Her San Jose-based design/build firm, Middlebrook Gardens, has installed over 800 California native gardens and remains on the leading edge of the rising sustainability movement. The California Native Garden Foundation, of which Alrie is a founding member, educates youth, builds curriculum, and has designed ELSEE (The Environmental Lab for Sustainability and Ecological Education), a certified teaching garden for schools embodying 200 benchmarks for the protection of ecosystems services. Alrie is committed to educating the public, especially youth, and promoting sustainability through native gardening and creating urban regenerative agriculture farms. Her workshops and speaking engagements at diverse venues across California have provided key forums to promote ecological thinking that empowers youth to lead in the development of a new urban land use model and ethic.

Principal vegetable grower for Master Gardener Spring Garden market--over 700 plants annually, all from seed.
Virginia Martin: Trained as a Master Gardener in 2006 by the University of California Cooperative Extension program and has been propagating plants for many years.
