The 36th Annual Fall Garden Tour was a Huge Success!
The 2011 Garden Tour - Sept 10th - 10 am to 4 pm
On September 10th, we showcased four special gardens, including one that was
extraordinary and had never been shown on our tour.
This landscape & garden featured expansive vistas, which borrowed views from an adjacent golf course
to enhance the overall feel of the gardens in a grand way. The 3-½ acre estate included a formal rose
garden, an outdoor French style fireplace & patio for evening meals and relaxation, and a pool area with
adjacent loggias. Mature and majestic Canary Island Date Palms framed views & added drama
to the setting. Visitors enjoyed a unique terrace made of old mill stones. This spectacular estate
had never been on our tour before!

This pocket garden enchanted
visitors with its variety of
treasured plants and whimsy!
The moment visitors entered
the front garden, with its raised
beds and small pond, they
wanted to stop & linger in this
energetic gardener’s creation.
The garden floats above
French pebble paths leading
to the front door of the home
along a raised entertainment
patio, that also provides a
wonderful view and entry to the
back yard. Here visitors
found many examples of the
horticultural style of the
creative homeowner --
a transplanted New Englander!
Everything you need to entertain was to be found in this two-level garden
that creatively takes advantage of the sloping site. The upper level highlights a full
outdoor kitchen and seating pavilion with easy access to the house. An adjacent
sitting area with outdoor fireplace helps keep the chill away. The lower level features
a colorful palette of water-wise perennials and succulents densely planted along graveled
walkways. Visitors enjoyed strolling along the paths to enjoy the scent
of the many fragrant plants!
Our fourth garden was sure
to astound!
It was amazing to see how
a conventional garden was
transformed to low water
use while keeping the same
traditional look and feel. With
beautiful alternatives to
thirsty lawns and azaela
and/or rhododendron gardens,
Visitors saw how a
green, sustainable design and
native plants were combined
in a low-water landscape.
Even the rear lawn was
replaced with a cheery,
edible vegetable garden
bordered with wildflowers!
